Alexa Ghadiry-Tavi

founder & educational consultant

Hi there, and welcome to My Tutor Time! I’m Alexa, an educator having taught in public and private systems throughout Western Canada, a University of Alberta Secondary Education alumna, and Harvard-trained Instructional Leader. I’m also a wife, a mom, and someone who has always believed that every child deserves an education that reflects who they are—not just what they’re expected to know.

I founded My Tutor Time over a decade ago when I was still in high school, tutoring students who weren’t receiving the kind of support I knew they needed—and deserved. What started with me, my sister, and a few close friends has now grown into a team of nearly 100 incredible tutors, working with families across Western Canada.

I’m humbled every day that our tutors have chosen to join me in building something that’s more than just a tutoring service. Together, we’ve created a community of care, collaboration, and curiosity—a place where children feel seen, and families feel supported. Nothing we’ve built would be possible without their passion and dedication, and I’m so proud to lead this team.

We offer services for both students and parents, empowering adults to confidently support learning at home in meaningful and informed ways. Through personalized tutoring and tailored educational consulting, we help families build confidence, independence, and a lasting love of learning.

Even as we’ve grown, I remain deeply involved in every part of our work.

✔️ I personally match each student with their tutor
✔️ I oversee the design of every At-Home Education Plan
✔️ I consult with families to ensure their child’s needs are fully understood and supported

Our tutors are carefully selected—not just for their subject knowledge, but for their ability to truly connect with students and adapt to their needs. Every plan, every session, every conversation is guided by our shared values: personalization, purpose, and empowerment.

I know firsthand how overwhelming education can feel—for both students and parents. My mission has always been to create a space where learning is not just productive, but joyful. Where kids feel capable, curious, and proud of who they are as learners.

And that’s exactly what we do.

I’m honored to walk alongside every family we serve—and so grateful to the team of educators who make this vision possible every day. Together, we’re not just helping students succeed—we’re reshaping the way they experience education.

Thank you for being here.

Adanna kalita

hiring & social media coordinator

For the past two years, I have had the honor of working directly with K-12 students as a multi-subject tutor. In that time, my mission was simple yet profound: to challenge every learner to reach their full potential. Today, I am channeling that front line experience and my background as a fourth-year Accounting student into my dual leadership roles as Hiring & Social Media Coordinator My Tutor Time.

This transition reflects my deep commitment to the "big picture" of education. I believe that sustainable academic growth requires both empathetic teaching and rigorous strategy. In my role as Hiring Coordinator, I utilize our rigorous hiring systems to search for the best candidates to join our team of tutors and specialists.

As the Social Media Lead, I view our digital platforms as more than just communication tools; they are the foundation of a community. My objective is to build a space where parents and students feel seen, heard, and empowered. I have witnessed firsthand how a single, transformative tutoring session can restore a sense of self-worth that a student may have lost. My goal is to ensure this message of hope and capability reaches every household that needs it.

I am incredibly proud to be a leader in an organization that values student confidence as much as academic results. My work is dedicated to the belief that when we empower a student’s mind, we change their entire trajectory.

Counselling Practicum Student

Many parents seeking support for their child are already carrying a lot long before they ask for help. School struggles often affect far more than academics. Stress spills into home life, and parents are left trying to figure out what actually helps while managing everything else around them. Sometimes they may not even know what they truly need help with anymore, only that something is not working.

The pressure to make the “right” decisions for your child can feel enormous. There were years where I lost sleep trying to find answers, hoping something would finally help my child thrive, only to feel back at square one when things were not improving in the way I hoped.

Looking back now, hindsight really is 20/20. There are so many things I wish I understood earlier, and that experience continues to shape the way I support families today. It taught me how easy it is for parents to become overwhelmed while searching for answers, and how important clarity, support, and collaboration can be before parents begin feeling even more lost.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve navigated neurodivergence, school challenges, and family dynamics while raising children through traditional schooling, homeschooling, and unschooling across multiple countries and school systems. Along the way, I’ve worked closely with schools, teachers, tutors, and educational supports as a parent advocating for my own children.

At My Tutor Time, my role focuses on helping families better understand what may be contributing to the overwhelm, and how to create more practical and sustainable ways to support their child and family. My approach looks at how school, emotional wellbeing, communication, neurodivergence, and family life all affect one another in everyday life.

I am currently completing my Professional Counselling Diploma at Rhodes Wellness College while continuing to develop resources, practical guidance, and support that help parents feel more understood, supported, and confident navigating modern family life.
